Barry is responsible for the insurance technology research stream in Ovum’s global financial services technology area. He works with insurance executives to review the technology strategy they use to strengthen their competitive position as well as the effectiveness of their marketing and distribution initiatives. He provides analysis and thought leadership on insurance industry trends and the impact of technology shifts on the insurance industry. He helps technology providers optimize their approach to the insurance industry. Barry is a recognized authority on current and emerging technology trends and their impact on the insurance industry. He has delivered presentations to a variety of insurance technology audiences and has been published in several insurance technology magazines.
Barry has been an insurance technology analyst for more than 15 years building on an insurance industry career that encompasses 20 years working in the industry and a decade of being a management consultant to the industry. Barry has carried out extensive research in the areas of customer experience, channel management, social media, the digital marketplace, predictive analytics, and location intelligence.
Prior to joining Ovum in February 2010, Barry was responsible for leading the global insurance advisory team at Financial Insights, an IDC company. His analyst experience also includes launching the insurance research strategic advisory service at Meta Group. Before becoming an insurance technology analyst, Barry was a management consultant with Arthur D. Little, IBM Global Services, and BearingPoint. His industry experience includes working in marketing or marketing research departments of Aetna Life & Casualty, John Hancock Financial Services, and The Hartford.
Barry earned an M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics from New Mexico State University in New Mexico and a double B.Sc. in Mathematics and English from Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pennsylvania.
