Ian Brown is a Senior Analyst in the IT Services practice at Ovum. Within IT Services, Ian’s main focus is on infrastructure services, which includes: infrastructure-led IT outsourcing, data center management services, managed hosting, desktop lifecycle services, and system support services. He currently specializes in data center issues, including legacy modernization and data center transformation. Ian is also researching infrastructure hosting from co-location to cloud-based services such as infrastructure-as-a-service.
Ian has worked exclusively for the IT Services practice since joining Ovum in April 2007. His research has included reports on:
- the IT managed services market
- cloud computing services
- co-location and managed hosting markets
- data center services
- IT services markets and forecasts.
His upcoming research will include reports on data center services, data center and IT transformation, workplace services, infrastructure-as-a-service, and quarterly briefings on the European IT infrastructure outsourcing market.
Ian has also undertaken consulting projects on market opportunities for IT and data center services vendors. Topics have included desktop services, data center location and opportunities, and due diligence work on potential IT services acquisitions. His speaking engagements have included round-tables on sustainability and IT, and internal briefings for tier-1 IT services vendors.
Prior to joining Ovum, Ian worked for 11 years as a senior analyst at Datapro/McGraw-Hill and for nine years as a research director for Gartner in its worldwide Server Team. As a result, Ian is well versed in infrastructure transformation and consolidation issues, particularly as they relate to the data center.
