Michael Philpott
Michael Philpott is practice leader of Ovum’s Consumer research practice. He is also a principal analyst specializing in broadband access, broadband content and connected home strategy. As practice leader, Michael is responsible for all of Ovum’s consumer telecoms research.
Michael’s contribution to this research includes detailed reports and case studies in the areas of broadband access and broadband content strategies, as well as detailed service demand forecasting. Michael is well-known on the conference circuit, providing his analytical view on broadband content markets on behalf of Ovum or its clients. Examples of Michael’s work include:

• Maximising ARPU through triple-play services
Michael joined Ovum in September 2000 as a consultant in the Networks and Infrastructure team. During his time with the team he managed several consulting projects for leading telecoms operators, equipment vendors, large utility companies, and financial institutions. In 2003 Michael became manager of the Broadband@Ovum service and between 2004 and 2006 he helped establish Ovum’s Telecommunications Technology group, and two more research services: BroadbandContent@Ovum and ConnectedHome@Ovum. At the end of 2006, Michael took over the as practice leader of Ovum’s Consumer practice.
Before joining Ovum, Michael spent four years with BT Laboratories designing next-generation access networks, providing him with a deep understanding of broadband network technologies and business case modelling. Michael has a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with Management.
