Market Share Report: 2Q12 Global OC

Introduction

This presentation details optical component sales and share in six segments: long-, medium-, and short-distance transmission, transmission discretes, amplifiers, and ROADMs/filters. It identifies the top suppliers in each segment. Commentary and investment and new product news is also updated.

Highlights

Revenues in 2Q12 totaled $1,576m. The global OC market was flat sequentially but was down 4% versus a year ago. Annualized revenues are now $6,282m.

Despite almost full recovery of manufacturing capacity, we did not see expected gain this quarter. We continue to hold onto hope that new product growth will drive a modest 4% increase for 3Q12. However, the hottest new products are running at capacity which restrains the market.

On a rolling 4Q basis, NEC had the largest market share gain, followed by Fujitsu Optical Components. NEC’s 2Q12 revenue was more than double its 2Q11 revenue. Sumitomo suffered the largest decline, with revenue down 16% from the year-ago quarter.
