This report reviews performance for the optical components (OC) market. 22 highlighted vendors and 36 additional vendors are tracked by six segments: long-, medium-, and short-distance transmission, transmission discretes, amplifiers, and ROADMs/filters. Highlights
Revenues in 3Q12 totaled $1,596m. The global OC market was up 1% sequentially but down 2% versus a year ago. Annualized revenues are now $6,287m, down 3% from a peak of $6,563 a year ago.
The outlook for 4Q12, based on vendor guidance provided in 3Q earnings calls, is for 2% sequential decline. Compared to forecast, the actual results through 3Q along with guidance for 4Q have 2012 tracking to $6,335 million, below the pessimistic forecast of $6,579 million published in August 2012.
NEC, JDSU, WTD, and NeoPhotonics gained share. The ROADM segment finally saw gains after six successive quarters of decline. Multiple vendors saw positive tunable XFP growth and are increasing capacity in response.
